Steven Rockefeller is an American philanthropist, environmentalist, and prominent member of the Rockefeller family. Born on May 27, 1936, in New York City, he is the son of David Rockefeller and grandson of John D. Rockefeller Jr. He is the third of six children and is married to Anne-Marie Rasmussen Rockefeller.
Steven Rockefeller holds a Ph.D. in philosophy from Harvard University and has spent much of his life advocating for environmental causes. He served as chairman of the National Environmental Education and Training Foundation from 1992 to 2005 and was a founding member of the Consultative Group on Biological Diversity. He is also the co-founder of the Global Interfaith Network for People of All Faiths, an organization dedicated to promoting environmental sustainability through interfaith cooperation.
In addition to his philanthropic work, Steven Rockefeller is also a professor emeritus of religion and philosophy at Middlebury College in Vermont. He has authored several books on ethics and faith, including "The Christ and the Bodhisattva" and "The Gaia Hypothesis: Science on a Pagan Planet."
Throughout his life, Steven Rockefeller has been a vocal advocate for social justice, environmentalism, and interfaith cooperation. His commitment to these causes has earned him numerous awards and honors, including the Rachel Carson Award for Environmental Conservation and the Paul Mellon Award for Environmental Leadership.
